The Centre is committed in supporting institutional strengthening that focuses on promoting necessary reforms to ensure the sustainable operation and maintenance of drainage systems , As demand for improved drainage and flood management strategies grows, we provides much-needed skills and resources to help develop effective drainage and water engineering systems in cameroon
We always try to share the most relevant best practice examples, from an international and regional context, and work with our partners to translate to a national context.. ICSUD Support the Capacity of public institutions to develop skills, knowledge and systems to ensure that policy decision are made based on data that is credible, relevant, timely and sustainable.
We provides Training and capacity building program to equips professionals across government, municipal authorities, NGOs, and the private sector with the knowledge and confidence to develops strategies and innovative, cost-effective solutions to Urban Water Management and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems. Our Training and capacity building programs emphasize sustainable, nature-based solutions and digital, data-driven technologies focuses on equipping professionals—including civil engineers, urban planners, and municipal staff—with the skills to design, operate, and maintain systems that manage stormwater runoff, reduce flood risks, and improve water quality.
The Centre designs educational programs and training in collaboration with partners on a wide range of subjects to supports parliaments in developing their legislative drafting capacity .The training programs are aimed to equip legislators to be more effective and exert greater influence in state and national policymaking. These focused on broad areas of public policy, economic and social development, leadership, strategy and innovation, climate change and sustainable development, Our primary focus is the empowerment of Human Capital through institutional development and capacity building activities, including project management training aims to strengthen institutional and enhances their capabilities on issues that enable them to manage urban waters more efficiently, reinforce the effectiveness of stormwater drainage interventions and design green infrastructure projects for flood control
The centre has been very active in promoting sustainable river management through applied research on sediment transport in rivers, Building Collaborative Urban Drainage research for advancing knowledge and innovation in urban drainage systems., focusing on studies related to flood estimation, flood forecasting, remote sensing and GIS based studies, water logging and drainage congestion problems, evaluation of geomorphologic characteristics of rivers, sedimentation/erosion problems, preparation of flood plain zoning maps, urban hydrology study, water quality and environmental pollution, impact of climate change on water resources.
In our research projects, we deal with questions concerning novel processes and techniques. Not only technical aspects are considered, economic aspects are investigated as well. Numerous research collaborations with municipal network operators as well as consulting activities ensure that our results are practically relevant and applicable
We provide a transnational multidisciplinary collaborative research infrastructure that will allow stakeholders, academic researchers and innovators in the urban drainage water sector to come together, share ideas, co-produce project concepts and then benefit from access to top-class research infrastructures to develop, improve and demonstrate those concepts, thereby building a collaborative Urban Drainage innovation community where technologies can be tested under real-world conditions. We engage with experts from diverse sectors to undertake Trans-Disciplinary Research in the area of urban planning, flood risk management, runoff pollution management, mitigation and adaptation to climate change and resilience to disasters.
Innovative approaches to urban drainage systems represent a crucial frontier in urban planning and environmental management. With rapid urbanization and the looming threats of climate change, traditional drainage systems are proving insufficient to manage the increasing volume of storm water runoff and mitigate flood risks effectively.
ICSUD therefore established innovation leaders that deliver innovation through collaboration and technical excellence with aims to explore and analyze innovative approaches in urban drainage systems to improve efficiency and sustainability to a more environmentally friendly urban drainage systems, contributing to healthier and climate change resilient cities By embracing innovation in urban drainage ,We enhance the capacity of urban areas to cope with extreme weather events , improved water quality, enhanced biodiversity, for a more resilient and livable urban environment for current and future generations
Cooperation and partnership in urban drainage are essential to address the challenges of ageing infrastructure, increased flooding, and water pollution through integrated, sustainable, and collaborative approaches. These initiatives bring together researchers, municipal authorities, private companies, and the public to implement innovative, cost-effective solutions, including Smart Drainage Systems, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems, and Green-Blue Infrastructure.
We Collaborate and work together to share and transfer the benefits, lessons learned, best practices, specifically focuses on adequate urban drainage management, city planning, and sustainable mobility solutions, promoting their use and best practice among decision-makers and local authorities.
We provide opportunity for effective Collaboration at Global level. Peer collaboration (multi-institutional) across multiple institutions and multiple disciplines aim to build collaborative communities to improve urban water infrastructure
Promote collaboration amongst professional and establish strong networks between wide range of stakeholders and organizations to Foster mutual learning and exchanges on good practices, ensuring that infrastructure research supports real-world needs and societal challenges in urban drainage.
The Centre provides a collaborative platform to map, connect, and strengthen the world’s large-scale urban drainage research, turning them into engines for innovation, education, and global cooperation. The goal is to establish a strong, sustainable, and inclusive community of urban drainage research infrastructures that will shape the future of water-smart, resilient cities.
ICSUD provides a range of consultancy services to public administrations and government agencies that bring tangible and lasting change. Our consultancy services cover a range of areas including comprehensive services to meet local authorities’ requirements for sustainable urban drainage strategies and recommendations to reduce the risk of flooding.
We provides consultancy to design efficient and effective water and flood management systems for a wide range of infrastructure projects – safely disposing of water and building long-term flood and environmental resilience for communities in a sustainable manner.
Our consultancy focuses on all aspects of urban drainage and river modeling, storm water management and drainage design, Building resilience to climate change including Policy relating to the impacts of climate change on flood risk, flood forecasting models and methods for long-term flood prediction that are used by stakeholders across Cameroon to help predict, prevent and manage the impacts of floods.
We are involves in engaging with local communities and raising awareness about sustainable water management practices. Community-led projects, such as the creation of rain gardens or the installation of water butts, empower residents to take an active role in managing urban drainage.
ICSUD believe that public engagement is essential to ensuring that our research is both relevant and impactful. We are committed to fostering excellent public engagement with our whole research portfolio, in a way that benefits both scientists and publics, in the Cameroon and around the world. We aspire to be leaders in specific areas of public engagement. In particular, we want to build on our existing strengths in citizen science, community engagement and public dialogue
We engage in Education programmes and public consultations to ensure that communities understand the benefits of innovative drainage solutions and support their implementation.
ICSUD mobilize action on the global water crisis through a combination of social capital, shared values, credibility within the global water community, bottom-up orientation, and expertise. This ensures that the ‘voices of water’ can influence local, national, regional, and global development priorities.
Effective policy and regulation are essential to drive the adoption of innovative urban drainage systems, advance governance and management of water resources for sustainable and equitable development.
