Our vision

To Become Leading influencer in solving urban drainage challenges for resilient communities

Sustainable, resilient, and smart urban water management

Urban drainage systems are at the heart of sustainable, resilient, and smart urban water management. But this sector has often faced a fundamental obstacle: a lack of coordination, access, and shared knowledge across research infrastructures worldwide.

To tackle this, ICSUD was established as a specialize centre and driving force for the Development of sustainable urban drainage systems in Cameroon, focusing on  urban drainage policy, sustainable infrastructure, and flood risk management through applied research,  Policy development ,public engagement, capacity-building  and  innovative .

We take an integrated approach to both drainage strategy and flood risk management – considering both in the context of the local water environment. We have substantial experience of designing drainage systems and flood-risk management measures for a wide variety of project types and sizes.

Mission and Goals

Our mission is to provide strategic, policy leadership and expertise in combining land-use planning with water infrastructure to build resilient, sustainable, and flood-resistant urban environments that make human settlements more equitable, sustainable, resilient, and healthy.   Our goals are to build collaborative communities to improve urban water infrastructure. Includes Enhancing the operational resilience of urban drainage systems through real-time monitoring and data-driven management and developing techniques to improve the performance of existing, outdated systems as well as Developing models and infrastructure to mitigate and prevent, surface water runoff and pollutant discharge.

General objective

Research and Development

To undertake Research and Development in the area of Water Security and Sustainable Storm Water Management System

Provide a center

To provide a center for engineers and scientists in the area of Water Security and management of wastewater treatment plants

Provide support to manage urban runoff

Provide support to manage urban runoff in order to restore hydrological balance and reduce pollutant loads of water bodies, moving from a post-urbanization back towards a pre-urbanization status of water bodies.

Provide support to Build Sponge Cities

Provide support to Build Sponge Cities to soak the urban runoff and mitigate flood effects and build green-blue infrastructure able to exploit all the Ecosystem Services of Nature-Based Solutions.

Provide technical support

To provide technical support, to government agencies with solutions for sustainable management of rainwater that conjugates environmental needs with the possibility to restore neglected urban areas.

Promote Technological Solution

Promote Technological Solution to sustainable urban drainage techniques, cooperating with urban infrastructure, especially with micro-reservoirs that contribute to the collection and reuse of rainwater.
